Band-aid was created by Johnson and Johnson from adhesive tape in gauze in 1920. Band-aids work to protect by using a camouflage experience all while causing a disruption. They promise to be “long-lasting”, “flexible”, and “durable” though they tend to fall off soon after application. Band-aids provide a false promise of protection and blending in revealed by the need for constant reapplication and never actually matching skin tones. This often draws more attention to the wounds Band-aid claims are so important to cover.
